Dr. Ali Maya is a clinical psychologist, plant medicine support guide, ceremonial musician, and a healer. Ali has been a student and teacher of world mysticism traditions and Indigenous shamanism for over 25 years. She integrates her academic training in Buddhist Studies, Comparative Mysticism, and Clinical Psychology with all she has learned from Indigenous healers of North and South America. She is an ordained minister officiating weddings and other sacred ceremonies since 2008, and a Yoga and meditation instructor since 1997.
Ali joined the Plant Spirit School Faculty, in 2022. Ali founded a private clinical psychotherapy practice called the Aptos Counseling Center. She founded Ali Maya Retreat established in 2008 providing Domestic and International in-person retreats, online courses, mentorship programs, and one-on-one coaching packages.
Her retreats, programs, and music are guided by the prayer for the alleviation of human suffering and the opening of the human heart, in service to creating a healthier, happier world for all. She released four Studio albums of ceremonial music entitled Oceans of Compassion, in 2011; Ever-Flowing Fountain, in 2017; Washed Free, in 2019; and Miracle of Healing, in 2022.
Ali took Postdoctoral training at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology between 2009-2011, Master’s and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, CIIS (focus on East-West & Somatic Psychotherapy) in 2009, Somatic Psychotherapy training at the Lomi School of Psychotherapy in 2006, Master’s and Specialist degree in Counselor Education at the University of Florida in 2003, Buddhist Studies at Naropa University between 2000-2001, BA in Comparative Religion (focus on Buddhist Studies) at the New College of Florida in 2000, and Buddhist and Meditation Studies at the Reed University in 1996.
